Why does my remote control POWER button sometimes stop working?

The power button on the Hydra HD-B series remote control is programmed to power both your TV and the
Hydra set top box on and off at the same time. Sometimes these two devices become “out of sync” with each other, and begin functioning opposite of each other (one off, one on & vice versa).

 

The remote control talks to your TV by infrared (IR) signal and to the set top box by radio frequency (RF). This means it can talk to the set top box when positioned anywhere in the room, but can only talk to the TV when pointed directly at the TV.

 

The two devices get out of sync when the power button is pressed too quickly instead of a deliberate slow action, or when the user doesn’t point the remote control at the TV when pressing the power button. This causes the set top box to power off, and the TV remains turned on but does not show any programming. Instead, there is a floating power button stating “press to activate” (see figure at right).

 

When this happens, point the remote control at your TV and press TV and then
POWER to turn your TV off. Or simply turn your TV off on the device itself. Now press STB and then POWER while pointing the remote control at your TV. This will turn both devices on and restore your programming. Now that both devises are back in sync, you can just press POWER to turn the devises on & off together.

Important things to remember:

1. When powering the devices on and off, point the remote control directly at your TV.
2. Press the buttons slowly.
3. When the two devices become out of sync, make sure both devices are turned off,
then press STB then POWER to restore the programming.

I have funtions on my TV that I used to control with my old remote. Why will the TV button on this remote not control those functions?

You may on occasion have to use your old remote control for television functions not controlled by your new set top box. Your new remote does not work to control all of your television functions.

HANDY HINTS

- Press MENU to display optional features such as Caller ID, PVR (DVR), Account Info/Settings, and Search
(to search through programming).
- Press GUIDE to display programming information and channel lineup.
- Press MUSIC + GUIDE to access the music channel lineup (Pressing GUIDE alone does not display the music
channel lineup). To resume regular programming, press the DTV hot button or the number of the channel you
wish to view.
- Press (see button #13 on remote) when in the guide, to view the whole day of programming for the channel
selected.

 

Pause & replay live TV programming:

 

- Press II to pause live programming.
- Press the sold black square button to return to live programming.
- Press >> to fast forward or << to rewind live programming.
(Note: The “skip” option available while viewing a previously recorded program is not available when viewing live TV programming.)
